RecycleMatch

FAQs

What market are you serving?

RecycleMatch is the first online marketplace to address the $90 billion market for business recycling and zero waste.

The $47 billion market for commodity recyclables (baled materials like paper, cardboard, metals and plastics) is largely happening offline today with no transparency.

In addition, companies in the US landfill an estimated 7.7 billion tons of non-hazardous materials each year, at an estimated cost of $22 billion per year. Those same materials have an estimated value of $20 billion. Diverting materials from landfill can generate significant financial value as well as environmental value. These materials collectively generate an estimated 7.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Diverting the materials saves emissions and minimizes the demand on natural resources required to produce new materials.

RecycleMatch was created to help companies divert materials from landfills and to provide greater pricing transparency and liquidity to the current commodity recycling markets.

What information do you need for a listing?

It’s important your listings are as complete as possible such that a buyer can make a bid based on the information provided. The better the information on the listing, the fewer questions and more bids you’ll receive.
  • Accurate and complete description of the materials
  • Quantity
  • Location
  • Photos (very important)
  • Packaging / Loadout Information
  • Suggested price (may be $0 if you are willing to give it away)
  • Any requirements or preferences for a match such as destination restrictions (US only) or intended use (ex. No incineration)

Will you keep my company confidential until a match is considered?

Yes, your company name and personal information will remain confidential throughout the match process. Once the seller has selected a winning buyer, RecycleMatch will send an e-mail introducing only those two parties.

How is a winning bid determined?

The seller may select a winning bidder based on any number of criteria including price, destination, intended use of the materials, reputation of the buyer, or other factors. It is the seller’s sole and exclusive right to select the bidder that best meets their overall objectives. The highest priced bidder may not always be selected.

What if I have no bids on my material?

If your material is heading to the landfill, there’s a chance it will take some time to find the right end user. We’ve seen some listings take several months to find a buyer, but keeping the listing live is crucial to letting the world know about the resources that you have available. We actively market your listings on major search engines and via other marketing initiatives to find you a buyer. Here are some tips:
  • If you have a suggested bid level higher than $0, drop it to $0.
  • If you have ongoing monthly streams of materials, keep the listing open until matched. When we find a match, you can start diverting the waste.
